On Zoom
Queer Yiddishist Shmueskrayz is a conversation circle for 2SIAQTBLG+ & Questioning Yiddishists and Yiddish learners, with peer-facilitated breakout rooms for all levels from zero Yiddish to fluent:
- Build values-aligned Yiddish community
- Learn how to speak about issues we care about in Yiddish
- Co-create contemporary Yiddish culture while improving (and improvising) our Yiddish
Queer Yiddishist Shmueskrayz takes place in breakout rooms by Yiddish level (beginner/intermediate/advanced) plus an English main room. You are welcome to self-select your level and can enter & leave any of the breakout rooms as you wish, regardless of your Yiddish level. It’s always ok to drop in and just listen, and any/all attempts at speaking, writing, expressing in Yiddish are fully encouraged! You don’t have to be fluent – we aren’t (yet)!
Although topics will be suggested each session, the shmueskrayz is not a class or presentation on that topic. It works best when folks proactively contribute to the conversation, whether on the suggested topic or about whatever you want! Everyone is welcome to contribute their insight about the topic and share about Yiddish history, culture, literature, and other resources you know of related to the topic, building our collective knowledge. None of us are experts, and also all of us are experts!
ACCESSIBILITY
Let us know if you have any accessibility needs you’d like to address before the meetup. The meetup will be on Zoom with automatic captions turned on in the main room (in which we’ll primarily be using English).
Co-organized by Rad Yiddish and Queer Yiddishkayt.
