Rad Yiddish x UJPO: Yiddishist Living Library

Thursday, March 10, 2022,
7:30-9:00 pm ET

On Zoom

Join Rad Yiddish and United Jewish People’s Order (UJPO) for a “Yiddishist Living Library,” an evening based on the “Human Library” method. The Human Library is an event where people are the “living books” that engage visitors with stories and conversations.

During this special evening, there will be different breakout rooms on Zoom, with automatic captions turned on in the main room. The speakers will go from room to room, and attendees will be able to learn about the speakers, ask questions, discuss their love for Yiddish, activism, and more. Bring your favourite mug of tea, and settle in for a cozy evening!

Featuring speakers Ester Reiter, Sam Blatt, Shayle Kilroy, and Chana Weiss. Together, Rad Yiddish and UJPO hope to build our communities’ living archive of Yiddish knowledge and share it with each other.

ABOUT UJPO

United Jewish People’s Order (UJPO) is a Jewish, secular, social justice organization with branches in Toronto and Winnipeg and members in other parts of Canada. UJPO evolved from the Workmen’s Circle or Arbeter Ring, an umbrella organization that included Bundists, socialists, free thinkers, secularists, and Yiddishists. UJPO operates a camp community in the summer called Camp Naivelt, holds secular social justice-focused celebrations of Jewish holidays, runs an ongoing youth group, and hosts a range of other cultural, educational and political events. UJPO identifies 5 ongoing social justice priorities: Indigenous Rights, the Environment, Racial & Economic Justice, LGBTQ+ issues, and Israel/Palestine. UJPO is affiliated with the Morris Winchevsky School (MWS), a secular Sunday school program for young people from preschool to B’Mitzvah. The MWS also offers an Adult Secular B’Mitzvah program for people over 18 who are seeking a Jewish learning experience.
