COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
- We respect people’s marginalized identities: No racism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, femmephobia, whorephobia, sexism, ableism, sanism, classism, ageism, sizeism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, faith-bashing or other oppressive attitudes or behaviours.
- We don’t assume anyone’s race, dis/abiity, gender, or pronouns. If you don’t know someone’s pronouns, ask.
- If someone points out something we said or did was harmful, we avoid getting defensive, correct the harm when possible, and aim to do better next time.
- We keep ourselves muted when it’s not our time to speak.
ABOUT QUEER YIDDISH CAMP
Queer Yiddish Camp is a 2 week online Yiddish intensive May 15-27, 2022 for ALL levels beginner to advanced. Attendees take language, literature, song, history, and culture classes from an all-queer faculty of world-renown Yiddish teachers, scholars, artists, activists, and cultural workers!
Queer Yiddish Camp started as a collective dream for what a truly inclusive Yiddish language intensive program could look like if it were run by queers: a new generation of queers who don’t have to question their belonging while falling in love with Yiddish.
Queer Yiddish Camp values anti-oppression, centering the margins, accessibility, a culture of care and accountability, radical learning and pedagogy, challenging the canon, doikayt (hereness), cross-cultural solidarity, and nationhood not nationalism.
Our SCHOLARSHIP FUND especially prioritizes Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and all People of Color; trans, nonbinary, agender, genderqueer folks; D/deaf, disabled, crip, mad, neurodivergent folks; low-income folks; and all other students of Yiddish who are underrepresented in mainstream Jewish and Yiddish spaces or find them inaccessible.
The full cost of sending a camper to Queer Yiddish Camp is $800 USD. Our goal for 2022 is to raise $24,000, the equivalent of 30 full scholarships that will allow dozens of campers to receive full or partial scholarships to the May 15-27, 2022 program!
As a grassroots organization without access to institutional or government funding, we’re relying on our networks of values-aligned individuals and organizations to help us make Queer Yiddish Camp a success.
Whether you can give $5 or $180, your contribution as a valued member of our extended community matters a lot!
