Queer Yiddishist Shmueskrayz is a conversation circle for 2SIAQTBLG+ & Questioning Yiddishists and Yiddish learners, with peer-facilitated breakout rooms for all levels from zero Yiddish to fluent:
- Build values-aligned Yiddish community
- Learn how to speak about issues we care about in Yiddish
- Co-create contemporary Yiddish culture while improving (and improvising) our Yiddish
Queer Yiddishist Shmueskrayz has three self-selecting breakout rooms by Yiddish level (beginner/intermediate/advanced) plus an English main room.
1-2 moderators will hang out in each breakout room to give suggested conversation topic prompts, but feel free to shmooze about whatever topics you want! Also feel free to switch rooms as you wish, regardless of your Yiddish level.
It’s always ok to drop in without participating, but any/all attempts at speaking, writing, expressing in Yiddish are fully encouraged! You don’t have to be fluent.
ACCESSIBILITY
The event will have CART live captions for the main room only (in which we’ll primarily be using English). CART captions will not be available for the beginner/intermediate/advanced Yiddish breakout rooms. Yiddish-English-ASL trilingual interpretation can be available. Please let us know BY SUNDAY JULY 17 at the latest if you would like Yiddish-English-ASL interpretation.
